SUMMARY:Queen's Lecture 2017
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Zoubin Ghahramani: „Artificial intelligence and machine
learning: from understanding computation in the brain to building self-dr
iving cars“ \n\nWhat is intelligence? What is learning? Can we build com
puters and robots that learn? How much information does the brain store? H
ow does mathematics help us answer these questions?\n\nIn this year’s Qu
een’s Lecture\, Professor Zoubin Ghahramani will take you on a journey t
hrough the world of machine learning - the invisible algorithms that under
lie many of the tools we use every day. These learning algorithms are used
to build systems that recognize human speech\, translate between language
s\, recognize faces and detect emotions\, customize advertising\, recommen
 d products\, make financial trading decisions\, detect credit-card fraud a
nd email spam\, and optimize logistics and transport.\nIncreasingly these
learning algorithms will also help analyze clinical data\, make personaliz
ed treatment decisions\, analyze scientific data and suggest experiments\,
optimize food production and energy consumption\, create new works of mus
ic and art\, make sense of legal texts\, and power self-driving cars\, aut
onomous urban aviation and robots.\n\nIt is hard to imagine any area of hu
man life that will not be affected by advances in machine learning.\n\nZou
bin Ghahramani FRS\, is professor of information engineering at the Univer
sity of Cambridge and chief scientist at Uber. He is also deputy director
of the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence and a fellow of St
 . John's College\, Cambridge.\n\nThe Queen's Lectures are supported by the
British Embassy and the British Council Germany. \nThe lecture will be he
 ld in English.
