SUMMARY:Built Order: Spaces of Power / The Architecture of European Integra
 tion
DESCRIPTION:The architecture of the space around us has a considerable infl
uence on our everyday lives. However\, the resulting layout is rarely acci
dental and unintentional. Architects who design government and administrat
ive buildings\, urban spaces\, libraries or other built structures have al
ways been guided by the aesthetic as well as functional requirements and n
eeds that are placed on the buildings and architectures they design. The r
esult is architecturally manifested space that intends to reflect and cons
titute political-social orders and ideals or designed with regard to speci
fic forms of exercising and securing power. The lecture series “Gebaute O
rdnung” (Built Order) will investigate spaces of power during the 2021 s
ummer semester. In particular\, the speakers will explore how aspects of t
he architectural and spatial perceptibly interlock with political and soci
al orders. Four evening lectures will touch on the topics of architectures
of integration\, exclusion and annihilation\, representation and legitima
tion\, and the securing of power. SEBASTIANO FABBRINI The Architecture of
 European Integration“Architekturen des Ordnens” is a four-year (2020-2
 023) interdisciplinary research project of the Goethe University Frankfurt
and Technical University Darmstadt\, with the Max Planck Institute for Le
gal History and Theory and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum as non-universi
 ty partners.
